In Daina, Sakaldiha, Chandauli (UP)

In a bid to ensure a better livelihood for small and marginal farmers, MITRA was launched in 2016 with a motive to establish a model of Agriculture Extension Delivery Channel which would be scalable, impactful and sustainable (SIS). Since its inception, MITRA was involved in identifying various problems faced by the farmers in various states of our country and providing relevant extension solutions to them. In Daina village of Uttar Pradesh, MITRA appointed Kanhaiya Yadav as the Lead Farmer. Fellow Farmers in his village believe that he is the most knowledgeable person in the village in terms of agriculture and possesses interest in taking new knowledge and cultivating crops through new and improved techniques.

After selection, Kanhaiya was sent for capsule based trainings to different KVKs(Chandauli, BHU) on different crop POPs. In the last one year, Kanhaiya Yadav has taken three such trainings on Paddy crop POP. “These trainings have equipped me with much needed knowledge on crop. Also, I have learned to reduce the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides after getting technical knowledge from KVK, which has helped reduce my input costs,” says Kanhaiya, who has adopted insights from the training and is disseminating the same to fellow farmers.

Lead Farmer Kanhaiya Yadav is convinced with the increase in quality and growth of plants especially after the use of conoweeder.
